Local fairs are staples to Alberta summers, so we were excited to support this year’s Cochrane Fair with their safety activity zone which gives kids and families a chance to learn and participate in safety activities.

We often talk about operating our gas processing plants safely and ensuring that every employee and contractor goes home safe at the end of each day. So, the company wanted to help bring awareness to some common safety practices in the communities where we live and operate. The safety activity zone showcased exercises such as safety around pipelines, fire safety, animal care safety, safety on the farm and proper hand washing and physical distancing during the ongoing pandemic.

The importance of teaching safety aside, what really makes a fair are all the many other fun activities and events typical to an Alberta summer fair.

Some of our own Pieridae folks attended the event, where they enjoyed petting the animals and the ever-popular Mutton Busting event.

“I really enjoyed petting some mini donkeys, and the horses too! The greatest thing we watched was the kids’ Mutton Busting event,” said Rea B, an Accounts Payable Analyst with Pieridae. For those who are not familiar with it, Mutton Busting is a children’s event where they ride sheep and must stay on to win. “It’s the funniest thing ever. Some kids fall off right away, and some hang on for dear life and don’t want to let go. All in all, it was a great time!”

Our company remains committed to being a good neighbour and working with the communities where we live and operate. Sponsoring events like the Cochrane Fair and promoting safety demonstrates our commitment to being a part of the community.
