Pieridae CEO Discusses Project with Global Podcast

Pieridae CEO, Alfred Sorensen, recently spoke with Natural Gas World editor-in-chief, London, UK’s William Powell, and Americas editor, Dale Lunan, on his aspirations for the Goldboro LNG Project. Goldboro would export cleaner-burning Canadian natural gas to global markets. It was a wide-ranging discussion covering several topics including global and Canadian LNG markets going forward, the future of pipelines, and the state of current LNG projects.

Throughout the interview, Sorensen confirmed Pieridae continues to advance its LNG Project despite challenging market conditions and COVID-19.

“We are Canadian and virtually every other LNG project is controlled by either super majors or national oil companies. We are different in that regard,” said Sorensen. “We are building a Canadian project to export Canadian natural gas…This is an opportunity for our country’s leaders to not shy away from a difficult market that currently has its difficulties but also has strong, long term potential. If we continue to make the Project happen over the next year, Goldboro LNG will arrive on schedule at a time when the price will return to a more normalized marketplace.”

The Goldboro LNG Project remains solid with many key elements in place: the majority of key permits, a 20-year contract with German energy company Uniper Global Commodities to buy half of Goldboro’s gas, confirmation of eligibility in principle of an untied loan guarantee of up to US$4.5 billion from the German Government, a signed benefits agreement with the Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq, and Pieridae has the majority of the gas needed, when developed, to supply Goldboro’s Train 1.
